Small Village, Hard-Working Floors
Epoxy flooring in Black Creek covers two kinds of jobs. Inside the village, it is mostly attached and detached garages. Out on the surrounding acreage, it is shops, pole sheds and outbuildings with concrete that sees tractors, trucks and tools. Black Creek is small. The 2020 census counted 1,357 people and 545 housing units in about one square mile. But the floors we coat here often work harder than the ones in town.
A trade town from the start
Civil War veteran Thomas J. Burdick and his son Abraham settled here in 1862, when the place was called Middleburg. The Green Bay and Lake Pepin Railroad arrived in 1871, and the settlement grew into a trade and shipping center. The village took the name Black Creek when it incorporated in 1904, after the dark creek along its north edge. The area was once the nation's leader in sauerkraut production, until its kraut plants closed in the mid-1990s. In 2010 its largest private employer was a Saputo cheese plant.
That history means the village has a mix of older homes near the old downtown and newer houses on its edges. Older garages here often need crack repair and paint removal before coating.
Shop and outbuilding floors
If you have a heated shop or a pole building with a concrete floor, a coating can make it easier to keep clean and safer to work on. Here is what we look at:
- Weight. Tractors, skid steers and loaded trucks need a thick 100% solids epoxy base.
- Fluids. Hydraulic oil, diesel, antifreeze and grease call for a chemical-resistant topcoat.
- Grip. We add aggregate where you walk with wet or muddy boots.
- Heat. An unheated building limits when we can coat. We check the slab temperature and plan around it.
- Drains and slope. We work with floor drains and keep water moving toward them.
What a coating will not fix
A lot of farm and shop slabs were poured without a vapor barrier, or have settled over time. A coating sits on top of the concrete. It will not level a heaved section, close a moving crack or stop ground water from coming up. If we see those problems, we tell you plainly. Sometimes the best plan is to coat only the work area, or to repair a section of concrete first.
Business floors in the village
Small shops, service businesses and storage spaces in and around the village have the same needs as a farm shop in a smaller footprint. A coated floor is easier to sweep and mop, and it brightens a dim room because it reflects more light than bare concrete. We schedule commercial work to keep downtime short and can coat in sections if the space has to stay open.
Village garages
For homes in the village, most people ask for flake epoxy with a polyaspartic topcoat. It hides dirt, resists road salt and adds texture. Basements get a moisture test first, then a solid or flake coating if the slab passes.

Black Creek Questions
Can you coat a pole building floor that is not heated?
Yes, in the right weather. Resin coatings need a minimum slab and air temperature. We check the slab on the day and schedule unheated buildings for the warmer months.
Will a coating hold up to a tractor or skid steer?
A thick 100% solids epoxy with a hard topcoat can handle heavy equipment. Steel tracks and chains are harder on any floor. We ask what runs on the slab and build the system to match.
Do you coat just part of a shop?
Yes. Many owners coat the main work bay and leave a wash-down or storage area bare. We quote by area so you can choose.
